It seems that metalheads of the “extreme” variety have once again sparked curiousity amongst the average law abiding citizen.
Yes, our complex culture of beer and music is a very alien concept indeed….
A New Zealand University researcher has been given $96,000 to study the lifestyle habits of metal fans……………..true story. The grant has been awarded to student Dave Snell, who will undertake a study entitled “The Everyday Life Of Bogans : Identity and Community Among Heavy Metal Fans”.
“Bogan” is Australian/New Zealand slang for an unsophisticated lower-class person, the Antipodean equivalent of “trailer trash” in the United States.
Snell is content using the term to describe himself, telling Radio New Zealand that the “stereotype of a bogan is tight black jeans, a Metallica t-shirt, a mullet or shaved head and a love of beer and cars. I’d very proudly call myself a bogan”. His research will include a study of headbanging and moshing and also focus on the importance of tatoos and body piercings.
Frannie Aston of New Zealand’s Tertiary Education Commission, which administers the scholarships, stated, “This research will help us to understand our communities and our younger people”.

Blabbermouth.netВ reports:
QUEEN has been turned into ice cream by Ben & Jerry’s. The “Bohemian Raspberry” flavor will join other music-themed ice creams such as “Phish Food,” inspired by the band PHISH, and THE GRATEFUL DEAD’s “Cherry Garcia” and “Glastonberry” flavors.
According to NME, QUEEN guitarist Brian May welcomed the icy merchandise, saying, “It’s Queentastic! Rhapsolicious! So cool it’s not funny!” He also said he would like the next flavor to be “We Will Chock You.” QUEEN’s flavor will raise money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust fighting AIDS worldwide.
